The Genesis of Shotgun
Speed Bundles
I was conducting tactical drills with my shotgun in the Arizona desert. My training regimen pushed me physically and mentally to the limits. Creating challenges and combat scenarios, that had me running up hills, jumping into ditches, crawling on the ground, shooting and reloading on the move, negotiating obstacles, sprinting for cover and engaging targets from point blank to 200 yards. I was on a mission to master the strategy and tactics of combat shotgun; and I dedicated years to refining my skills.
During this time I took advanced shotgun courses, I trained on occasions with a law enforcement breaching team and other professionals. However, it was my personal training that I found the inspiration for the products and training method I would develop over the 5 years dedicated to my mission.
As I developed my training methods and tactics, I discovered a significant gap in the available gear. Current products failed to support the way I preferred to train; for example, nothing supported my loading techniques. I needed a system that could accommodate full loads and various single-load techniques, all while on the move and in any position I found myself in. This frustration led me to create my own gear and accessories to support my training methods.
With each new training session, I recognized the need for specialized products that could withstand the rigors of my training, allowing me to comfortably carry up to 50 rounds of shells while executing tactical maneuvers. I needed something versatile and adaptable to any situation. I was determined to find a better way to carry my ammo that would let me engage targets quickly while maintaining freedom of movement and support my preferred loading techniques.
To solve my problem, I needed to design a system that met these requirements:
· To comfortably carry 20 to 50 rounds, and not slow me down in tactical maneuvers
· To carry ammo in an organized way that I could quickly identify and retrieve what I needed, be it slugs, various shot loads, or less lethal.
· To access ammo quickly in any position or on the move.
· The shells must be in proper orientation to access and reload reliably and quickly.
· The system had to accommodate all the various reloading techniques I used in training.
For full mag loads, I preferred grasping 5 shells in my dominant hand to load them all at once. So, the design would need to hold the shells in the correct orientation for pulling them out and loading. The idea was to bundle them together for quick access and fast loading. The name Shotgun Speed Bundles came to me right away,
Creating the perfect speed bundle
I began creating prototypes using nylon and, elastic strap, Velcro and grommets. I built my first speed bundle rig and put it through the gauntlet of training drills. I was elated; they were perfect. Shotgun Speed Bundles solved all the issues I had with current products and significantly elevated my performance across all aspects of training.
When I was satisfied with the design, I found a high school kid down the street with amazing sewing skills because he helped his mom in her custom drapery business. I bought the materials, and we worked on prototypes. Later, I found a local shop that could manufacture them in small quantities. I was on my way to manufacturing, promoting, and selling Speed Bundles. I also continued developing my training methods and other products to introduce to the shotgun community.
First Prototypes
2011
That was eleven years ago. And that chapter in my story ends. Some of you must be saying, "11 years, Craig, what happened? What took you so long?" That’s another story for another day; in short, while I was preparing to bring my products and training to the shotgun community, circumstances beyond my control took a devastating turn, and life as I knew it was over. I was no longer able to pursue any ambitions or dreams. Shotguns and training faded away. I sold most of my shotguns and packed my gear into boxes. And there they stayed, in those boxes, gathering dust for 11 years. The shotguns I kept never saw the light of day, stowed away in the safe, never to be shot again. I thought now and then about picking up where I left off, but I had taken other paths in life. The time never seemed right, and the passion was just not there.
Not until October of 2025.
In October 2025, I was going through another time of transition and realized I needed to make changes in my life’s pursuits. I was not sure what those changes would be, but one day while organizing my garage, I came across boxes of gear from my shotgun days. Upon opening a box of old Speed Bundles, I suddenly realized this was the pursuit I was looking for, to finish what I started so long ago. After much contemplation, in November I committed to bringing Shotgun Speed Bundles to market and got to work on establishing a new business venture, building a website and store, sourcing manufacturing, and planning. I imagined producing training videos for Speed Bundles and on other shotgun strategies and tactics I learned during my shotgun days.
I’ll be 67 in March, and I'd never be able to perform at the level I did at the peak of my training. However, I’m excited to share my expertise and the products I created with you, proving that age is just a number when you have a passion and desire to teach others from past experiences.
This time around, my focus is not on becoming what I used to be. It’s on making Shotgun Speed Bundles products and training available to you through our website, store, and videos.
After not shooting a shotgun for 11 years, I realized I needed to do it. Which prompted me take a drive out of the desert and make my first video. Titled: I Got to Shoot the Shotgun. I was feeling apprehensive at first; however, firing off the first five rounds gave me a massive adrenaline rush. I was breathing heavily with excitement and in awe that it still felt second nature. I guess after 5 years of training and easily over 20,000 rounds loaded and fired, shooting became intuitive. I just needed to release it from where it was repressed within me, and those first 5 shots did it.
I appreciate you joining the Shotgun Speed Bundles journey, as I pick up where I left off so long ago. I have years of content to share with you and will consistently introduce new products on the website store. Feeling overwhelmed by this undertaking at first, I realized I could only take one step at a time and needed to start over from the beginning. So, be patient. I promise you, I’ve got some amazing surprises ahead!
